Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine how cooperative learning strategies are used at SMA Negeri 1 Geyer to increase student participation in economics classes. This study employs a descriptive research design and a qualitative methodology. The Miles and Huberman methodology, which involves data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, was used to assess the data that had been gathered through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings demonstrate that the planning, execution, and assessment phases of cooperative learning techniques are carried out. With the teacher acting as a facilitator, the learning process is carried out through the formation of diverse groups, interactive discussions, and presentations of group work outcomes. This approach highlights active student engagement by encouraging participation, collaboration, and meaningful interaction throughout the learning process. As a result, students become more responsible for their own learning and more involved with their peers. However, several challenges remain, including differences in students’ ability levels, some students being more dominant or active than others in group work, and limited time for conducting effective group activities.
